Plastic Waste Reduced by 98% for Major Fashion Brand

Background

March 2020. The UK went into a broad lockdown as a result of rising COVID -19 cases, meaning thousands of people had no option but to stay at home.

Online purchases soared with extra fulfilment staff needed to manage the demand and extra cleaning and hygiene measures to keep them safe. As companies scrambled to keep sites Covid-secure, product demand overtook availability, costs rose dramatically and sustainability went to the wind.

During this period Knighton Janitorial was able to reduce the amount of chemical being used by a distribution centre for a major fashion brand by 50%, decrease single use plastic consumption by 98% and ensure that surfaces were still being cleaned to an anti-viral standard.

In a post Covid world, inflated use of chemicals and the associated environmental impacts this is having such as plastic waste is an issue that needs a solution.

Challenge

The client was experiencing a huge increase in the use of chemical products which was causing an equivalent increase in costs and plastic waste. The challenge was to reduce this large product consumption whilst ensuring the site remained Covid-secure.
